Education

Besides giving guest lectures in Belgian and foreign universities, the Centre for Sustainable Development also organizes three courses at Ghent University. The course ‘Politics of sustainability’ aims to familiarize students with sustainable development as a political issue. In the university-wide elective course ‘Sustainability thinking’, students coming from diverse disciplines thoroughly explore a specific sustainability topic. The thematic focus changes every year. In the course 'Sustainable cities' students learn to approach a Ghent based sustainability question using future thinking en explorative scenarios. Characteristic for the Centre for Sustainable Development’s education is active student involvement in the classes as well as through group work, and an inter-/transdisciplinary approach that stimulates students to study sustainability issues from diverse perspectives.
