Transitions and Future Studies

Developing towards ecologically sustainable and just societes, demands deep changes: in the structures upon which our society is build, in daily routines and practices, and in cultures and frames of mind. The CDO has several years of experience in research on these sustainability transitions, for example in circular economy, the food and agriculture system, and the housing and building system. Two kind of questions are central to our research: what are transitions and how can they be understood? And how can sustainability transitions be influenced and accelerated? Our research in this field comprises more traditional academic research as well as action research in which we closely cooperate with government, social movements and representatives from industry. An example of this kind of research are different projects of future studies and long-term scenario’s.
