Frederik De Roeck is Doctor of EU Studies, with a background in both political and environmental sciences. He is a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre for Sustainable Development, currently active in the project 'Transactional investigations of learning in view of sustainability transitions' (LESTRA), lead by prof. dr. Katrien van Poeck. 

Frederik's research interests lie mostly in critical approaches to sustainability and sustainability transitions, conceptualizing them as fundamentally political. Empirically, he has worked on different topics like the industrial transition and (to a lesser extent) the transition in food systems and transport. During his PhD, Frederik also developed a broad expertise in European internal and external climate policies, and published numerous academic articles on the nexus between EU climate- and development policies. In terms of research approach, he has established expertise in the use of discourse analysis and situates himself mainly within a Foucauldian discourse tradition. 

Frederik De Roeck is Doctor in de EU-Studies, met een achtergrond in zowel politieke wetenschappen als milieuwetenschappen. Hij is verbonden aan het Centrum voor Duurzame Ontwikkeling (CDO) als postdoctoraal medewerker en is momenteel actief binnen het project 'Transactional investigations of learning in view of sustainability transitions' (LESTRA), onder leiding van prof. dr. Katrien van Poeck. 

Zijn onderzoek hanteert een kritisch perspectief op duurzaamheid en duurzaamheidstransities en beschouwt deze als fundamenteel politiek. Vanuit deze optiek heeft hij al rond verschillende duurzaamheidsthema's gewerkt, waaronder de industriële transitie en (in mindere mate) de transitie in de voedings- en transportsector. Daarnaast heeft Frederik doorheen zijn doctoraat een brede expertise opgebouwd omtrent Europees intern en extern klimaatbeleid, en heeft hij verschillende artikels gepubliceerd omtrent de nexus tussen het Europees klimaat- en ontwikkelingsbeleid. Qua onderzoeksmethodes heeft hij vooral ervaring met het gebruik van discoursanalyse, en situeert hij zich meer specifiek binnen de Foucauldiaanse discourstraditie.
